March is almost over, and all you midwestern beer drinkers know what that means.  Oberon!
I recently came across this article in the KalamaBrew site about this years batch of Oberon coming from the great Bells Brewery.  Now I have to admit here I am somewhat partial as I grew up right down the road from their Southwest Michigan home, but honestly this is the standard I hold all American Wheat Beers to.  Its refreshing citrus taste, just the right amount of hop bite, and crisp finish make this the utmost example of a great summer time beer.  I’m already planning on attending a local tapping party, and I recommend you do the same.  After my experience finding two 6 packs at a local liquor store a week after the superbowl, I’ll say that this is not a beer you can cellar and still have it be as enjoyable.  The really good news is that Bell’s was able to aquire all the hops needed for the recipe and didn’t have to modify it at all this year, so we can be sure it will be another great batch to enjoy this summer.
If your a fan of the Bell’s family (I’ve yet to had a beer from Bell’s I didn’t like) make sure you check them out on twitter @bellsbeer.
I for one am already looking forward to a warm June/July day when I can enjoy a lazy afternoon with a minikeg of this godly nectar and the company of some good friends…
